Retail Crisis in Pakistan 2020 |
The Retail sector demands are mentioned below.
Chain-store Association of Pakistan (CAP) has requested government
to facilitate direct wage support to 600,000 employees of the organized retail
asserting that it is their first priority to keep on skilled workforce.
CAP also insisted government to provide financial support to
them as retailers process salaries to a huge number of employees and to avoid
lay-offs.
Current GST rate is also very alarming as 14% - 17% tax is
seriously very hard for retailers to deal with it in this crises. CAP demanded
GST rate up to 6% asserting that businesses would not be manageable with
reduced purchasing power in the country.
They requested to defer principal payments and renounce interest payments for a year and also demanded interest free and low
cost loans further against the current assets.
Keep in mind, Retail sector is linked with over 50 sectors
including weaving, tanning, spinning, dyeing, processing, stitching, packaging
and assembling business sectors. Advertisement, logistics, HR, IT and commercial
construction industry are closely associated with this sector.
We hope government will take measures to facilitate this
sector rapidly. As retail industry is backbone of our country’s economy.
